Food and Drink in and around Aylsham |
Aylsham and the surrounding areas has a belief in good food and drink. Farming
and produce matter. Quality matters and above all, taste matters. But it is not
only the land that provides high quality food for catering establishments in the
town - the North Sea is close by - famous for its catches - so that visitors and
residents can enjoy choice and quality.
Meat from local farmers, local fish, cheese, fruit, vegetables, honey and jam
from local fruit are all much in evidence on Aylsham's Market stalls, especially
the Farmers' Market. And Norfolk's Independent Greengrocer of the Year for 2006
can be found in Aylsham - really local produce here -he grows a significant
amount on his smallholding.
Restaurants, pubs and cafes serving local food all help to underpin the Slow
Food and Cittaslow ethos of quality, tradition and conviviality, complemented by
a wide choice of wines and local beers. So much so, that an "Aylsham Ale" was
created especially for the gala dinner in Italy last year (mentioned in the
Cittaslow article earlier) and previewed at the Aylsham Show. Also, the Town
Council does not allow commercial caterers on market days or at town events
unless they use local produce.
So whether it is a gourmet meal, a good old fashioned cuppa or lunch on the
move, you will be certain to find what you want in Aylsham and the surrounding
area.
