Aylsham is near the source of the
River Bure, about 10 miles (15 kilometres)
north of Norwich and about the same south of Sheringham and Cromer.
The town’s recorded names at the time of the Domesday Book were Ailesham
and Elesham. The community predates the Norman Conquest, and the
linen and wool industries can be thanked for a great deal of the town’s
affluence. With so much history, easy access to the countryside,
Norfolk Broads, coast and city of Norwich, this area of Norfolk is an excellent base
for any type of holiday from relaxed to adventurous.

The River Bure rises near Saxthorpe and Corpusty,
runs through Aylsham, Coltishall, Wroxham and the
Norfolk
Broads on its path to Great
Yarmouth. A
wonderful area of Norfolk to discover for the first
time or return to again and again.
